Sort — Privacy Policy

Sort ("Sort", "the app", "we", "us") is a household and team coordination app. This policy explains what information Sort collects, how it's used, who it's shared with, and the choices you have. It applies to the Sort iOS app and this website.

Sort is built around shared workspaces: a household (personal use) or a team (work use) that you and the people you invite belong to. Most of the content described below — task lists, calendar events, reminders — is visible to everyone in your workspace by design, since that's the point of the app. Content you mark personal (e.g. a personal reminder) is not shared with the workspace.

Information we collect

Account information

Name and email address, from Sign in with Apple, Sign in with Google, or email/password sign-up.
A unique account identifier issued by Firebase Authentication.

Household & team content

Workspace name, invite code, and the roster of members (name, email, role).
Grocery items, tasks, maintenance items, calendar events, and reminders you or other members create.
For voice-entered items: the app uses on-device speech recognition to turn your speech into text, then sends that text (not audio) to Anthropic's API to split it into individual items.

Notifications & calendar

A push-notification token (if you allow notifications), used to notify you about task assignments and new events.
With your permission, Sort adds events you create to your Apple Calendar via EventKit. Sort does not read your existing calendar entries.

Subscription & payment

Purchases are processed by Apple and by RevenueCat, our subscription management provider. Sort does not see or store your payment card details.
RevenueCat provides Sort with your subscription status (active, trial, expired) so the app can unlock paid features.

Optional integrations

If a team owner connects a Slack incoming webhook, task-assignment and new-event notifications are posted to that Slack channel. This is opt-in, configured by the workspace owner, and can be disconnected at any time from Settings. Data sent to Slack is then subject to Slack's own privacy practices.

How we use this information

To operate the core features of the app: shared lists, tasks, calendar, reminders, and household/team membership.
To send push notifications about assignments and events (and, if connected, to your team's Slack channel).
To parse voice input into structured list items.
To manage subscriptions and unlock paid features.
To keep the service secure and diagnose problems.

We do not sell your personal information.

Data retention

We keep your account and workspace data for as long as your account exists. Leaving a household or team removes you from its roster and its shared content; the workspace's data (created by other members) persists for the remaining members. You can request deletion of your account and associated personal data at any time — see Contact below.

Children's privacy

Sort is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

Security

Data is transmitted over encrypted connections and stored with Google Firebase, with access controlled by per-workspace security rules so that only signed-in members of a household or team can read or write its data. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we can't guarantee absolute security.

Your choices

Notifications, microphone/speech recognition, and calendar access are all optional and can be changed anytime in iOS Settings.
You can disconnect a Slack integration from Settings at any time (team owners only).
You can leave a household or team, or delete your account, at any time.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the app changes. We'll update the "Last updated" date above when we do.
